The attorneys of Edison, McDowell & Hetherington have focused on serving energy-sector clients throughout our legal careers. We have successfully litigated matters on behalf of many of the country’s leading developers, producers, refiners and distributors of oil, gas, liquefied natural gas and other petroleum products; electrical utilities and transmission companies; independent power producers; energy traders; and businesses engaged in the development and production of alternative and renewable energy.
Our energy clients often have the same type of litigation as other clients, including cases involving claims of antitrust, breach of contract, fiduciary duty, business torts, theft and misuse of intellectual property, securities fraud, personal injury and products liability. What makes EMH unique is that we fully understand the energy industry and can apply that expertise to disputes across the country.
In the past two years alone, we have handled myriad cases throughout the United States for our energy clients. For example, we obtained the dismissal of a class action consumer lawsuit filed in federal court in Los Angeles, California, against the nation’s leading refiner and garnered a multimillion-dollar breach of contract judgment in Texas state court for the nation’s largest independent power producer.
In addition to appearing before state courts, federal courts and arbitration panels across the country for our energy clients, we routinely handle administrative matters before regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Commodities Futures Trading Commission.
